Howzit everyone! I am really chuffed to report that yesterday I reckon I pulled off one of the better rounds of the year with a 69 and made it through Local Qualifying for the US Open at a beautiful golf course called Carlton Woods here in Houston.
I hit the ball well tee to green again just like I did on the weekend at Fort Smith and realised on the back nine that I am way too hard on myself on the greens. Instead of going into self destruct on the greens, I tried to focus on the tempo of my stroke rather than trying to make the putts. With that thought process in mind I rolled a few putts in, still not as many as I would like, but enough to get the job done. Onto the Sectional Qualifier now which is on Monday, 5 June 2006.
But I can't give all the credit to myself for getting through today. Jo was great on the bag and kept encouraging me the whole day. And thanks to Tiaan Brand, one of the local Houston rugby boys for coming out and following us the whole day and being the only supporter out on the course. Thanks guys.
I am at home this week for a so-called week off, but will do more than just sit around. I am flying to Phoenix on Friday for a day to go work with my old friend Stan Utley for a fine tuning on my short game and putting. As that is what's stopping me from really going low.
Enjoy your week at work or on the links and will speak again soon.
