Steamy hot in the mid West

Wednesday, 11 August, 2010

It has been a fun stretch out on the road for us, we're in our fifth week of journeying across the Mid West, and summer is most definitely here. We have experienced some serious heat out here that's for sure and top of my priority list being on the bag has been keeping us both hydrated. We started off in Cincinnati and then moved on to Columbus, Tjaart made the cut in both of these which was a good start to our mini-Summer campaign. We were both so excited to get to Omaha to stay with our friends Dave and Nancy Brown, it felt like 'going home' and we totally felt at home that week. We had some great suppers, good wine and even better company. Our friend Phil Tataurangi stayed with us too so lots of golf banter during the week. Tjaart had a solid weekend at Champions Run and finished T34 which was a move in the right direction from the previous two weeks results. We said our g'byes to Dave and Nancy and drove to Wichita the Monday following tournament. Through a friend in South Africa, we were 'hooked' up with the Dwyer family, as always there is a sense of apprehension when turning up on an unsuspecting family's doorstep with our luggage in tow and taking over their guestroom for a week. Well we had zero to worry about, we couldn't have been luckier, Don, Jan & Tim were just FABULOUS. We felt at home immediately and as the week went on we felt like we had known them for ever.
We had a great week together, and Zach (Don and Jan's nephew) arrived for the weekend. There were lots of Ping-Pong matches and some quality pool time during the week and to top it all off Tjaart played some awesome golf. We had a little fun too on the 17th hole - caddy races!!!! something I've haven't seen before and certainly never thought I'd be doing... but my competitive streak took over and walking up to the green on Friday and Saturday I couldn't resist breaking into a trot to get to the green first. I think I also lucked out as my fellow caddy's were good sports and gave me a gap.
The Dwyers were also a great support out on the course and even though the temperatures were out of control they made sure they were there to give Tjaart and I support which is always welcome.
Sunday's round was a solid one in all aspects and Tjaart finished T4, his strongest finish of the year yet and I have a feeling there's a lot more to come... he's feeling confident which is showing in his game. We're in Springfield, Missouri this week where it is even hotter (didn't think it was possible!), and next week we head home for a very welcome week-off. Will be good to catch up with our friends there and to be in our own space for a while.
Tjaart has also been super lucky to have worked with a fantastic network if chiropractors/ART guys over the past few weeks, this has been a huge factor in him being able to play 5 events back to back - it's PRICELESS...
As always thanks to all who support, encourage and root for Tjaart each week he's out there getting that little white ball in the hole.
